Webinar held: Safeguarding cultural heritage in times of climate crisis – towards green practices

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Green Art Incubator successfully organized a webinar as part of the Green Heritage Initiative project, titled Safeguarding Cultural Heritage in Times of Climate Crisis: Towards Green Practices. This educational event was aimed at professionals working in the field of cultural heritage protection, with the goal of raising awareness and building capacity for implementing sustainable practices in their work.

During the two-hour program, participants were introduced in detail to the key aspects of the climate crisis and the opportunities for heritage protection institutes and similar institutions to adapt to green transition processes.

Throughout the webinar, Dr. Jermina Stanojev, international analyst, expert, and lecturer in cultural heritage policy and international cultural relations, delivered a lecture highlighting the crucial elements of green transition in the heritage protection sector. She addressed global challenges, innovative approaches, and practical guidelines that can support the preservation of cultural assets in the context of climate change. Her presentation offered participants a unique opportunity to gain insights into the latest policies and strategies being implemented on the international level.

Following the lecture, a handbook was presented, intended for professionals working in the field of cultural heritage protection, with a particular focus on those dealing with immovable heritage. The handbook advocates for the potential contributions of heritage institutions to achieving global goals related to halting the further escalation of the current climate crisis. In addition, it promotes the adoption of more environmentally sustainable working procedures and encourages the redefinition of heritage’s role as an agent of change through audience engagement and the active involvement of communities in content dedicated to this topic.

The handbook is available for download on our website, in the Materials section (in Serbian).

The Green Heritage Initiative project is supported by the Green Heritage Hub, Europa Nostra, and the ALIPH Foundation, with co-funding from the European Union.
