Introduction to Green Film: Seminar on Program and Production Skills Development

As keynote speakers at the event, Luca Ferrario, Vice President of the Italian Film Commission and Head of the Green Film Research Lab, and Giovanni Pompili, film producer and Head of the Torino Film Lab studio, presented relevant tools, guidelines, and best practices that can contribute to shaping the initial steps towards green transformation. They emphasized the importance of adapting and creatively shaping these elements during the planning and execution of each individual project.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about case studies of pioneering green films from neighboring countries. Katarina Krnacova shared her experience working on the film Stand Up – the first Slovak film striving to meet the standards of environmentally sustainable production, as well as her work on the Green Memorandum and Green Handbook for the Slovak audiovisual industry. Meanwhile, Ognen Antov presented guidelines for reducing the environmental impact of production at all stages using the example of the first Macedonian green film Stela.

The event concluded with the presentation of research results conducted by the Green Art Incubator, aiming to determine the practices and potential of AV productions in the context of green transformation. A dialogue with participants revealed significant interest from sector representatives in the transformation processes. However, the main obstacles identified were the lack of systemic solutions and appropriate legislation in this context.

The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Open Society Foundation, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, with partners including the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, the Faculty of Physics at the University of Belgrade, and the Association for Creative Industries of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
