Climate Art Hub: Two-Day International Event

The Green Art Incubator, in collaboration with the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and UNDP Serbia, successfully organized a two-day international event, Climate Art Hub, held on October 27th and 28th, 2023, at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts.

The event brought together leading global experts and professionals in the field of green transformation in the performing and audio-visual arts, as well as decision-makers, to discuss the possibilities of defining and implementing a green agenda in culture.

The first day began with an introductory lecture on the climate crisis by Vladimir Đurđević PhD, a professor at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Belgrade and co-founder of the Green Art Incubator, that was followed by a panel discussion on the Green Agenda as the New Paradigm of Social Development, held in cooperation with UNDP Serbia, where the audience learned more about the Green Agenda for Western Balkans, and how UNDP contributes to its realization in Serbia. The keynote lecture, dedicated to green film production, was delivered by Louise Marie Smith, founder of the consulting company Neptune Sustainability, which is a global leader with a decade of experience in this field. The evening concluded with a screening of the Emmy-winning documentary Gasland, directed by American filmmaker, writer, and activist Josh Fox

The second day of the event opened with a hybrid panel discussion, Learn to Unlearn: New Eco Production Models in (Future) Theatre, which brought together five experts from around the world to focus on the utilization of eco-friendly materials in stage design and costumes for the performing arts. The program continued with a panel titled Culture and Climate Change: Transformative Policies as a Response to New Challenges, featuring representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Creative Europe Desk Serbia, UNDP, and the administration of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, discussing the potentials of cross-sector collaboration in defining and implementing public policies for an effective response to climate challenges. The event concluded with a conversation with young authors who have encountered ecologically sustainable practices in their narratives and production approaches.

The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade.
